A Little Insight Into Palestine and Israel

Liz Michael: The problem with "facts vs. mythology" is that it is often hard to distinguish between the two, and also bring up the difference between "mythology as in something probably true on some level but not totally provable" and "mythology is total bullshit". I mean, talk to any fundamentalist Christian and you will clear hear them assert all manner of thing as "fact" even when it is impossible for it to be true. Oddly enough the Jews, who have been oft maligned in this thread, tend to have a more logical approach than the Christians do to these same writings.

Liz Michael: And the clear "fact vs. mythology" problem that some of y'all have is the term Zionist. Y'all have taken this word from us, given it a different definition than we have for that word, failed to make the distinction, and then use the word as if all Jews are guilty of a handful of things that really only handful of schmucks are. (By the way, you can call them schmucks, it would be more accurate than calling them Zionists.)

L Reichard White:::::::: Well, in the '70s I respected the Israelis for how they handled the El Al hijackings. And I bought most of the Israeli party line. Further, I suspect a lot of Jewish genes in my family.

But I got a wake-up call when I ran for Senate 3 in Nevada, and, taking a consistent Libertarian position, endorsed a complete cessation of all taxpayer financed foreign aid. The ADL branded me anti-Semitic because, when asked, I said that included aid to Israel.

Since, I've recognized the slick PR etc. instieated by AIPAC, etc. and what the Israelis have been doing to the so-called "Palestinians." There's some ego involved I'm sure -- I don't like being made a fool of. If I'm not careful, I find myself emotionally very close to becoming a classic anti-Semite. Jacque -- and Steve Lewis, have pulled me back from the edge several times.

Dr. Norman Finkelstein -- impeccable dude if you like unemotional facts -- is my favorite current source. This is worth a look. It's telling that he's been under attack ever since he came forward. I keep losing one of his best brief interviews because SOMEBODY keeps getting it taken off youtube.

Liz Michael: Well, the ADL isn't exactly best friends with me and I AM Jewish. I personally think the ADL is essentially just using a racial cover to promote socialism, much like the NAACP has also become. If the ADL REALLY cared about the Jewish people, they would never support gun control. My view of AIPAC is that they don't have to do very much to encourage support of Israel, as most of the Congress is Zionist, and probably a majority of America supports Israel. (I actually do have a small history being on the receiving end of ADL stuff so I know of where you speak.)

Liz Michael: Well, I am fully aware that the Jews do things to the Palestinians and the Palestinians do things to Jews. I wouldn't really take a side except for the fact that the Muslims have already chosen my side for me. As a Jew, a Zionist, a Lesbian, and a Woman, which side would accept me and which side would kill me is already written in stone, and I cannot unwrite it even if I wanted to. It is a shame because I could be a very good peacemaker between the two but the Muslims do not want peace.

Jacque Sheete: Many, many fine Jewish folk know the score. The rich sadistic violent Zionists are a tiny minority and they're making real Jews look bad. Unfortunately many innocent Jews believe the propaganda as do most of the Christian goyim.

Liz Michael: *Is it OK for ANYONE to steal their land and houses?* - Look, if any Arabs can demonstrate that they owned specific land that was specifically stolen, I'm all for they being allowed to return to that specific land, or their heirs if they are dead. That I'm all for. However if someone is saying that whole of Israel was "stolen", that's bullshit.

Jacque Sheete: Now ain't this clever?
"...if any Arabs can demonstrate that they owned specific land that was specifically stolen..."

This strawman argument is not clever at all.

Valiant Vetter Crack *the* book L Reichard White - think 1948, 1967, think the thirties and the forties in Germany, think about antisemitism TO THIS DAY in the US.

Where are the Palestinian Holocaust museums Reichard? I've been to several and aside from Gypsies, hom
osexuals, and a few other fringe groups, I don't recall a mass extermination of any other races or religions besides Jews.

Frankly, I think the USA and the UN should piss off and let the chips fall where they may. The Jews are a warrior race and would kick almost any opponents ass. (Again, 1948, 1967)

I'm not even Jewish and the conversation is pissing me off!

THINK
RESEARCH

The powerful and hard-hitting documentary, American Holocaust, is quite possibly the only film that reveals the link between the Nazi holocaust, which claimed at least 6 million Jews, and the American Holocaust which claimed, according to conservative estimates, 19 million Indigenous People.

It is seldom noted anywhere in fact, be it in textbooks or on the internet, that Hitler studied Americas Indian policy, and used it as a model for what he termed the final solution.

He wasnt the only one either. Its not explicitly mentioned in the film, but its well known that members of the National Party government in South Africa studied the American approach before they introduced the system of racial apartheid, which lasted from 1948 to 1994. Other fascist regimes, for instance, in South and Central America, studied the same policy.

Noted even less frequently, Canada's Aboriginal policy was also closely examined for its psychological properties. America always took the more wide-open approach, for example, by decimating the Buffalo to get rid of a primary food source, by introducing pox blankets, and by giving $1 rewards to settlers in return for scalps of Indigenous Men, women, and children, among many, many other horrendous acts. Canada, on the other hand, was more bureaucratic about it. They used what I like to call the gentlemans touch, because instead of extinguishment, Canada sought to remove the Indian from the Man and the Women and the Child, through a long-term, and very specific program of internal breakdown and replacement and called it assimilation. America had its own assimilation program, but Canada was far more technical about it.

Perhaps these points would have been more closely examined in American Holocaust if the film had been completed. The films director, Joanelle Romero, says shes been turned down from all sources of funding since she began putting it together in 1995.

Perhaps its just not good business to invest in something that tells so much truth? In any event, Romero produced a shortened, 29-minute version of the film in 2001, with the hope of encouraging new funders so she could complete American Holocaust. Eight years on, Romero is still looking for funds.

American Holocaust may never become the 90-minute documentary Romero hoped to create, to help expose the most substantial act of genocide that the world has ever seen one that continues even as you read these words.

1954 - 120,000 Guatemalans killed

1954 to 1975, 4,000,000 Vietnamese and Cambodians killed.

1965 - 3,000 Dominican Republicans killed

1980s - over 700,000 Libyans, Grenadians, Somalians, Haitians, Afghanistanis, Sudanese, Brazilians, Argentineans and Yugoslavians killed,

1991 - over 1,000,000 Iraqis killed, including over 500,000 children -- about which Madeline Albright ( then, Secretary of State ) said "their deaths are worth the cost". While George W. Bush owns over 80% of the oil wells in Kuwait, trouble will continue there.

SOME HISTORICAL EXAMPLES OF US INVOLVEMENT IN DIRTY WARS

Over the years, the US government has supported coups that brought a number of repressive and brutal regimes to power, as well as the dirty wars which followed. Chile, Djakarta, El Salvador, Iran - the list goes on. In many cases military regimes replaced democratically elected leaders, and the killing sprees which followed were justified by the US government as necessary to wipe out communism--while being quietly covered up. The following links are meant to provide an introduction to the many notorious incidents that occurred from the 60's to the 80's. This list is by no means exhaustive, but it should begin to shed some light on the long history of questionable US foreign policies.

A CIA-backed coup and massacre in Indonesia in the 1960's may have taken the lives of up to a million people. http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/54b/032.html

Thousands of declassified CIA documents reveal that the CIA aided in the overthrow of democratically elected Chilean President Salvador Allende in the 70's, thus putting Augusto Pinochet into power. You may have heard Pinochet's name before: his infamously brutal regime saw thousands killed, tortured, and "disappeared." http://9-11peace.org/r.php3?r=194

Henry Kissinger played a key role in the overthrow of Allende. This article explains his involvement (which he denies in his memoirs), and details the many instances of direct US and CIA involvement in the situation, such as setting up a fascist organization run by a former PR person for the Ford Motor Company. http://www.wsws.org/news/1998/oct1998/kis-o21.shtml
